The Lagos State Danfo operators is now set to face a serious economic trouble as Governor Ambode of Lagos State brings in new commercial vehicles to replace "Danfo" buses for transportation.
The Governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode is fully prepared to phase out all the danfo commercial vehicles in Lagos State and replace them with more comfortable ones to match with modernity.
According to the Lagos State Government, the new buses are expected to be cheaper, safer and more durable. The government has advised all the danfo bus owners to key into the project now before become too late for them.
The Lagos State government displayed this new modern buses as a way to replace and phase out danfo and molue buses in the state.
Dr. Dayo Mobereola, the Commissioner for Transportation, said the programme would see to the introduction of buses with higher capacity that would have 30 seats as opposed to 14/18 seats of danfo buses. The buses would be eco-friendly, air-conditioned, and comfortable. There will be support for maintenance and backed by appropriate workshop which creates jobs.
Lagosians would rather queue up to board buses at cheaper rate than what the danfos would offer, by this way, eliminating them economically, adding that some of the existing danfo drivers had already keyed into the project, the commissioner said.
Mobereola said the National Union of Road Transport Workers is already in support of the project by the State Government.
