Our Vehicle Testing Team, based in Hamburg (Germany), supports the Development of new Shell products with a range of advanced chassis dynamometer test platforms. Providing innovative solutions through a variety of bespoke test methodologies is critical to ensuring Shell delivers the high-quality automotive fluids our customers expect. 

For this team, we are currently looking for a highly motivated Manager Vehicle Technology with automotive testing and leadership experience. 

What the role is about 
The Manager Vehicle Technology will lead a large team of engineers and technicians that use chassis dynamometers test cells to evaluate fuels and lubricants in practical applications. Part of the responsibility is also the management of a state-of-the art workshop for vehicle preparation. 

The position of Manager Vehicle Technology requires an individual with strong leadership and change management skills and a solid engineering background. 
This position offers the successful applicant an opportunity to contribute her / his individual leadership skills to the Fuels Operations Leadership Team driving the direction and strategy of Fuels Operations as a whole. 

As a Manager Vehicle Technology your main responsibilities will be: 
  1. Overall staff responsibility (17 FTE) including line management, facilitating development for staff at all levels and maintaining a sufficient skill pool for breadth of coverage. 
  2. Technical responsibility for the operation of the vehicle preparation workshop and 6 chassis dynamometer test rigs. 
  3. Personally responsible for delivering quality output on promises against challenging time and cost/budget constraints while identifying and implementing new opportunities to drive operational excellence. 
  4. Manage operations in terms of staff and capital resources employed to ensure breadth of staff coverage and the long-term viability of the equipment. 
  5. Personally accountable for technical efficiency, overhead budgets and effective CAPEX planning and spend. 
  6. Demonstrate a personal commitment to safety and quality and ensure that all activities are undertaken with an emphasis on improved HSSE and quality standards and culture. Ensure full compliance to all applicable Group Policies and Standards. 
  7. Some general financial details: about $1.5 million/yr in CAPEX, with a Total Overhead costs of about $3 million plus Salary and Burden. 
  8. 4 FTEs will be reporting directly into this position.
